How does the A Brighter Haiti 5K work? The A Brighter Haiti 5K is a virtual and community-based event that allows participants to complete a 5K from wherever they are while supporting Light from Light’s mission in Haiti. After registering, participants will receive a race shirt and important event information. Participants may choose to run or walk with a locally organized group, gather with family and friends, or complete their 5K on their own.

Additional locations may be added based on participant interest. If you would like to join a local group or organize a gathering in your community, please contact us at info@lightfromlight.me. Participants will submit their race times and photos through our online race platform. Awards will be presented in select race categories, and prizes will be mailed following the event.
Is August 29th the only time that participants will be walking or running? In short, no! We will ask participants to consider joining the Light from Light community in a 5K on the morning of August 29th in an act of solidarity; however, we will accept “official” times that are submitted anytime between August 15-30.
Virtual Participants Can’t make it to Charleston or Atlanta? No problem! The A Brighter Haiti 5K is designed to be completed wherever you are. Participants can run or walk in their neighborhood, at a local park, on a favorite trail, or even on a treadmill.
A $5 shipping fee will be added to virtual registrations to help cover the cost of mailing race shirts and participant materials. To help reduce shipping costs, local shirt pickup options may be available in Charleston and Atlanta prior to race day. Additional pickup information will be shared with registered participants.
Please note that race shirts are guaranteed for participants who register before the official shirt order deadline. Participants who register after that date may not receive their shirt prior to race day.
Weather The A Brighter Haiti 5K is a rain-or-shine event. Participants should plan accordingly based on weather conditions in their area. Any event-wide updates or important announcements will be communicated via email and social media.
Registration Online registration will remain open through race week. Additional information regarding race shirts, local gatherings, race result submissions, and event details will be sent directly to registered participants leading up to race day.
Refund Policy Because registration fees directly support Light from Light’s programs and partnerships in Haiti, registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. We appreciate your understanding and your commitment to helping provide healthcare, nutrition, and hope to vulnerable communities.
What will the 5K benefit? Every registration helps provide healthcare, nutrition, and hope to vulnerable communities in Haiti. Proceeds from the A Brighter Haiti 5K support Light from Light’s partnership with local leaders at the Lespwa Timoun Clinic near Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Through this partnership, children and families receive access to medical care, nutrition programs, prenatal services, vaccinations, community health programs, and life-saving support.
When you participate in the A Brighter Haiti 5K, you’re doing more than crossing a finish line-you’re helping ensure that children and families have access to the care and resources they need to thrive.
