Hi everyone! My name is Lindsay Kilpatrick and I spent the summer as the Fundraising and Communications Intern at Light from Light. I am a rising sophomore at the University of Georgia and I am planning on double majoring in Business Management and International Business with minors in Spanish and Public Policy.

I first heard of Light from Light last fall, soon after I moved to college and started school. Emme Maner, an intern at Light from Light last summer, was launching Light from Light College and she told our sorority all about it. Light from Light is a US-based non-profit that aims to provide healthcare, nourish children, empower women, and so much more in the country of Haiti. In January of 2020, Emme Maner spoke at my weekly sorority meeting once again, where she explained Light from Light, the amazing team, and the summer internship opportunity. I quickly thought about the opportunity and immediately texted Emme, as I knew that it would be a perfect fit. Within a week, I had submitted an application, had an interview with Hannah, and got the job! I remember being so excited to land my first internship and the job ended up exceeding my expectations.

The team at Light from Light is unparalleled. The passion, dedication, creativity, and drive that inhabits Hannah, Tram, Elaine, and Meredith is unmatched. Every single one of them works tirelessly to support the children and families in Haiti with such abounding love and an open heart. They immediately welcomed me with so much grace and compassion, even though I was so naïve about nonprofits and the business world in general. They patiently answered my questions, were forgiving when I made mistakes, and allowed me to grow in every capacity.

Throughout the summer, I was given responsibilities and experiences that included attending the weekly-staff meetings, drafting press releases, managing the social media accounts, creating graphics, sending out 5K materials, and so much more. Being able to have my hand in such a variety of projects has allowed me to grow and learn something new every day this summer.

This internship is high-impact and rewarding on so many different levels. If you or someone that you know would like to hear more about the internship program at Light from Light, contact the team at info@lightfromlight.me
